5 New Year's Resolutions Every Realtor Should Make

The New Year is the perfect time to set goals and re-evaluate habits. Real estate professionals are no exception. The New Year kicks off the notoriously busy spring season in Florida which makes it a perfect time to set healthy and productive habits. Here are 5 resolutions every real estate professional should make:

1. PRIORITIZE YOUR WORK/LIFE BALANCE

As a real estate professional, it is easy to accept that fact that business is done 7 days a week and sometimes at crazy hours. Customers love quick responses, but they also respect your personal life. A healthy habit is to designate a time when you stop working. That can be between 2-3pm when you pick up your kids from school. Or at 8pm, turn off your ringer and resist the urge to check your phone until morning. Other businesses are not operating at 10pm, so why are you? Also, set aside time to unplug and be present at dinner, that means no cell phones at the table.

2. SET ONE LISTING APPOINTMENT PER WEEK

In order for your business to grow, you need to seek new listings. Set a goal to go on one listing appointment each week. This will give you lots of practice to fine tune your presentation skills and give you a better chance at meeting your closed transaction goals. Plan out how many contacts you will need to make each week in order to achieve this goal and keep track of your progress. Ask someone to hold you accountable.

3. GET ORGANIZED

Organize your desk, car and briefcase. Throw away everything you don’t need. If your car should be labeled as a mobile office, remember to start this year fresh with organization. Try purchasing a portable file tote and file folders and organize all the papers flying around your back seat. You will feel loads more organized the next time you open to trunk and actually have space for the groceries.

4. GET YOUR CONTINUING EDUCATION DONE

When is your continuing education due? Schedule to complete it early. Don’t wait until the last minute. Learning is part of being a great real estate advisor.

5. UPDATE YOUR SPHERE

Think of all the new contacts you’ve met thee last few months at holiday parties and social gatherings. Have you added them to your SOI? Have you worked with a new title agency? Lawn company? Contractor? Joined a new Country Club? Had new neighbors move in?
